Annapurna Base Camp sits inside a ring of high peaks, with Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre close enough to feel. The trail goes through farming villages and bamboo forest, then climbs into the high sanctuary.
Ghandruk is one of the best places to begin. The first days are gentle, the village is easy to enjoy, and we can store what you do not need to carry.
The way in.
One common route from Ghandruk. Days vary with your pace, the weather and how you handle altitude.
- Ghandruk to ChhomrongAlong the ridge and across the Kimrong Khola, with stone stairs on both sides of the valley.
- Chhomrong to the bamboo forestThe trail drops, climbs and enters the Modi Khola gorge.
- Up to Machhapuchhre Base CampAbove the trees, the valley opens out and the peaks close in.
- Annapurna Base CampThe high sanctuary, at 4,130 m, with the peaks all around you.
- The way backDown the valley to the hot springs at Jhinu, then on to Ghandruk or Nayapul.
Before you set out.
The best seasons are spring and autumn. Go slowly, drink plenty of water and allow rest days. Altitude affects everyone differently.
Permits are required for the Annapurna region. The rules have changed in recent years, so Silver Spring Treks checks them and arranges your guide and permits.
